RICHARDSON, Texas – Richardson High School English teacher James Quigley faces felony charges after he allegedly attempted to get his 16-year-old victim to sign a nondisclosure contract.

Quigley, 34, was charged with sexual assault and having an improper relationship with a student for allegedly twice having sex with a young girl in his class this year, after which he sent numerous unwanted and threatening messages, the New York Daily News reports.

Quigley first approached the girl in March and asked for her email and phone number to discuss an essay, the victim told police, but it was soon clear he had other ideas in mind.

The Smoking Gun published an affidavit in the case that alleges “since then, the 16 year old juvenile female has been receiving e-mails from Quigley saying she was ‘pretty’ and she had a ‘pretty neck’ and other non-school related communications.

“Quigley then started texting and calling the 16 year old juvenile female throughout the year.”

On two occasions between May 1 and June 30, the victim told police she had sex with Quigley in her bedroom at her house. On another occasion around the same time, the victim said Quigley showed up at her house, knocked on her door, and presented a hotdog to her dog. He then allegedly hugged her and kissed her forehead while grabbing her butt, according to the affidavit.

When Quigley allegedly told the girl he thought about her when he touched himself, she was disgusted and tried to cut of contact, but it didn’t work. She stopped attending his class and tutoring sessions “because he would always approach her and make sexual comments towards her in reference to her neck,” the victim told police.

According to the affidavit on Smoking Gun:

“The (student victim) said Quigley approached her one day with a ‘written contract’ and told her if she signed the ‘contract’ he would give her an average of 85% or above in his class. The contract prohibited (the victim) from telling anyone what was happening and from getting anywhere close to Quigley’s wife, Carla Quigley, who’s also a teacher at Richardson High School.

“(The girl) did not sign the contract and left,” and after unsuccessfully attempting to convince Quigley from allegedly sending texts and emails, she told her mother about the abuse.

The victim also told police she believed Quigley was getting it on with her friend, as well.

“(She) said her friend, also a 16 year old juvenile female, witnessed most of the text messages and e-mails Quigley sent to her and she was also ‘hanging out’ at school with Quigley. The (victim) believed (her friend) had been in a relationship with Quigley because (she) was bragging to her friends about ‘making out’ with Quigley. (She) told her friends ‘his beard bothers me when he kisses me,’” the affidavit reads.

Quigley was arrested last Thursday and booked in the Dallas County Jail on a $100,000 bond. The English teacher, who had taught in the Richardson Independent School District since 2009, was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of his case, the Daily News reports.
