LONG BEACH, Calif. – As the enrollment period for Obamacare is getting closer, surrogates are pulling out all the stops to get their message out.

We love obamacare signPeter Lee, executive director of “Covered California” and a former Obama administration bureaucrat, is making the rounds in the state, telling people what they can expect from the government-managed health care system.

“Starting in October, you’re going to be seeing us on the airwaves,” Lee told a roomful of college students and community members during a town hall meeting in Long Beach earlier this month, according to the Press-Telegram. “You’re going to be seeing us in the schools and in churches.”

Labor unions, school districts and civil rights advocates received $37 million in tax dollars to promote Obamacare, according to the paper.

Obamacare’s message will be spread “in classrooms” according to the Press-Telegram.

According to an official with Covered California, at this time, only the Los Angeles Unified School District will be using students and staff to promote Obamacare.

“2,500 juniors and seniors, ages 16-18 and all volunteers, will be trained to share information about Covered California Health Plans with relatives and neighbors that are part of the population eligible to enroll,” Covered California Information Officer Athena Fleming told EAGnews.

The training will occur after school hours, she said.  Fleming declined to answer questions about when the training would take place and how much time it would take.

“Deploying students has been a successful model in community outreach for the district,” she added. “Using students to reach (the) eligible population is just part of the LAUSD outreach and education plan. LAUSD and its employees also plan to reach out to its adult student population of 256,000 to educate them about the benefits and protections under the (Affordable Care Act).”

LAUSD received $990,000 in taxpayer funds to promote Obamacare.

How ethical is it for the Obama administration to recruit young, naïve students to promote a program that many believe will be detrimental to the nation?

And if the goal is to secure health insurance for poor people, we have to wonder how much insurance $37 million would purchase, instead of being wasted on public relations effort by the government.
