MEXICO CITY – California Gov. Jerry Brown has a message for migrants: Come to California!

Appearing in Mexico City, Brown told the assembled media his state would be happy to accept more migrants coming across the southern border.

“I would do everything I could to make sure California will do its part to shelter any young children that are in need of protection,” Brown said, according to the Tampa Tribune.

“I would support additional shelters to deal with this particular immediate challenge we have,” Brown said at the press conference with U.S. Ambassador to Mexico Anthony Wayne.

The United States “has to keep a humanitarian frame of reference as it deals with each one of these young immigrants and there has to be courageous actions on the part of Central American governments if we’re going to get the problem solved and Mexico also has to be part of the fix,” Brown said, according to the paper.

But that’s coming at a heavy price.

The Indian River School Board in Delaware is responding to the crisis by creating classrooms specifically for children who do not read or write English.

“Members of the Indian River School Board expressed frustration at yesterday’s meeting with Governor Jack Markell over the impact of the state taking in over a hundred unaccompanied undocumented children,” Delmarva Public Radio reports.
