MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Sometimes they can’t help themselves. Another liberal, given a prime public forum to help his cause, embarrassed himself and the publication in which he appeared. In the case of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, they cannot say they weren’t warned about Jeff Simpson.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel has a collection of community columnists called, “Purple Wisconsin.” Supposedly it is a collection of rotating “red” and “blue” opinion writers that contribute to a dialogue of sorts. According to the newspaper, “The Journal Sentinel hosts these blogs as a way to encourage thoughtful debate about the important issues facing Wisconsin and the Milwaukee region.”

The result is something less than optimal, of course, and made even worse by the recent presence of Simpson, a Monona Grove school board member and obnoxious internet troll.  Who, other than editorial page editor David Haynes, could be surprised when this bit of internet sewage erupted noxiously beyond even the paper’s tolerance levels?

In an illiterate post, not quite pulled down by the newspaper yet, Simpson accused school choice supporters of being willing to share student information with pedophiles. He wrote (verbatim):

Mr. Bender wants to know everything about YOUR children.   Let’s look at this in context.

*In a 2012, the New York Times magazine detailed a long list of pedophilia charges at the Horace Mann Schoo which at the time was led by (the school and the scandal) legendary school reformer ” R. Inslee Clark J

While I understand that Mr. Bender is not Mr. Clark Jr., we do not know who will be handling these Open records request, or who will ask for them now that they have been given the idea,   With the information that Mr. Bender wants, you can narrow your search down to all 15-16 year old boys in show choir.

Simpson followed that with another attack (verbatim):

*  It was not very long ago, that a prominent Milwaukee leader of voucher schools, was arrested for first degree sexual assault.

Luckily he was caught, however, thanks to Mr. Bender, for thos who might be out there in the system and have not been caught, he just handed them a menu!

– Someone is now able to get the phone number and address for every 15 year old public school athlete in Wisconsin.   Thanks Jim Bender.

–  How about when NAMBLA wants the names and addresses of every 13 year old public school boy in Wisconsin.  Thanks Jim Bender.

(Note, the person who was arrested worked for a charter school, not a private school in the Milwaukee voucher system.)

After an alert reader sent me the link, I contacted Haynes:

I was just wondering if you had any comment on the latest by Jeff Simpson where he accused school choice groups of wanting to give information about school children to pedophiles.

Will Jeff Simpson continue to be a columnist for Purple Wisconsin, or will the Journal Sentinel live up to an editorial written by you calling for a more civil debate?

This is, after all, your responsibility.

Haynes, to his credit, replied, “We host the Purple Wisconsin bloggers. We do not edit or direct their actions. However, we have the ultimate authority to continue our relationship with them. We removed the post from the web and have severed our relationship with this particular blogger.”

As of Monday afternoon, the blog post is still visible on the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel website at its original link and Simpson is still listed as a contributor.

It’s not as if Haynes wasn’t warned. I brought up Simpson’s toxic Twitter rants to Haynes in December, and a current Purple Wisconsin contributor also told me that Haynes was warned by other contributors when the newspaper added Simpson.

Well, Simpson can now add being banned from the op-ed pages of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel as well as being banned from at least one prominent liberal blog. The folks back home in Monona Grove must be proud of their school board member. By the way, he is up for re-election in the spring elections. I wonder if he’ll put, “kicked off the op-ed pages of a liberal newspaper,” in his campaign literature?
