ARLINGTON, Tenn. – Officials at Tennessee’s Bolton High School are investigating allegations that a 14-year-old student was prostituting herself in the boys’ bathroom during her lunch period.

Shelby County School officials contend they are looking into “allegations of inappropriate behavior” and have suspended several students, but at least one student told WMC Action News 5 a 14-year-old female freshman had been passing notes offering to meet male students for sex in the boys bathroom during lunch, and many were taking her up on it.

“There was like a line 10 people almost every day,” the unidentified student told the television station. “She just turning around at me in class always smiling at me … There’s something wrong with her, and I hate it.”

The student said teachers seem oblivious to the girl’s lunch romps, which started at the beginning of the year, WMC reports.

The news comes just over a month after Bolton High School teacher and assistant basketball coach Michael Lewis, 32, was indicted for aggravated statutory rape by the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office. Lewis and his firefighter roommate, Bryan Wilson, 32, allegedly raped two 17-year-old students at the school.

Lewis, who was one of the girls’ teacher, allegedly had sex with the girl in his classroom, and allowed his her to spend several nights at his home, according to media reports.

Experts told WMC the most recent allegations of student prostitution are a sign the young girl may have been abused. School officials said they’re investigating what exactly happened, and more student suspension could be coming, but local law enforcement told the news site they have not been contacted for assistance.

Parent Dorothy Sanders was quite troubled by the prostitution allegations.

“Bolton needs to crack down on this because this is not even normal,” she said. “I don’t want my kids coming home telling me about this.”

Recent Bolton High graduate Wezley Kearney said he was “very disappointed” about the recent revelations, and said his experience “nothing like that.”

“It was just a regular high school,” Kearney told WMC.

Several who commented on the story expressed pity for the young girl, and scorn for school officials who failed to properly monitor students.

“No 14-year-old girl suddenly decides to have sex with 10 boys during the lunch period simply because she wants to. Her behavior is one that is screaming out that she suffered some type of sexual abuse or trauma …,” Gloria Corder posted to Facebook.

“Behavior like this is a sign of very low self-esteem and self-worth that only comes with some type of sexual abuse. I would hope the school and local authorities investigate this thoroughly and offer this young girl some comprehensive counseling.”

“I hope this young girl gets the proper help she needs,” Teresa Kilgore wrote.

Ken Glatzer questioned why it took school officials so long to catch on.

“This is an issue for all parties to take responsibility for – Parents, teachers, students and administration. Why are the teachers unaware? Why are the halls not monitored? Why are students not letting responsible parties know if this type of stuff is happening?” he wrote.

“This paints a pretty poor picture on all parties, but it starts with the admiration not knowing and/or monitoring the students more closely. There needs to be some changes.”

Allison Hinson Graham was flabbergasted that school officials have not contacted local police to assist in their investigation, especially considering the school’s recent allegations of illegal sexual activities.

“Why are the police not involved in this? Last month teachers were indicted for raping students. Prostitution is a serious crime that school admin are not in a situation to investigate, especially after Bolton’s very own teachers were caught and charged with rape,” Graham posted.

“I feel so bad for this girl, as she has no clue how much this is going to damage (her) mentally and physically.”
